Obituary for Edward Virsack

Edward Virsack
EDWARD VIRSACK
Edward Virsack, age 85, died at Regency-Harbor Care on August 20, 2012. He was born in North Braddock, Pennsylvania to John and Veronika Virsack, immigrants from Czechoslovakia. Ed enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1945, serving 21 years, retiring as an Aviation Store Keeper (AKC), having served in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He and wife Pat traveled the world as the Navy sent them to New York, Tennessee, California, Nevada, Japan, and Puerto Rico, the Philippines, sea duty and finally, NAS Whidbey. He was preceded in death by his wife Pauline “Pat” Virsack.
Finishing his Navy career, Ed decided he wanted to continue working and soon found a position as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring for a second time in 1989. Ed was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and while attending church, met a widow who had moved here from California. A love affair blossomed and Ed married Helen Stanley in 1986, a marriage that lasted more than 21 years. They loved to travel and took several cruises, including a trip through the Panama Canal.
Ed and Helen decided to move to Cocoa Beach, FL, but soon discovered the heat and humidity were too much for them and they returned to Oak Harbor. In 2006, Regency became home for Ed and Helen. Helen died in 2007.
Ed was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, Whidbey-Fidalgo Assembly #3361 of Oak Harbor.
Ed is survived by two children, Sylvia Stanley of Seattle and Hal Stanley and wife Sandy of Denver, CO.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 9:00am at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Rev. Philip Raether as Celebrant. Rites of Committal will follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery. Friends and family are encouraged to share memories and condolences at www.wallinfuneralhome.com
