Condolences

Condolence From: Bonnie and Victor Alanis
Condolence: Dear Stephanie and Kristin,

Vic and I were so sorry this evening, to receive the news about your mother. We met Jan at Crescent Harbor Elementary when I was hired to work there during the first month we were married back in 1995. I can still remember meeting Jan even before I was offered the position. The principal took me on a tour of the school and introduced me to your mom along the way. I noticed immediately that she had a smile that lit up the room. We became friends throughout the ten years that I worked at Crescent Harbor. She would have Vic and I out on these 20 to 30 mile bike rides around the islands weekend after weekend. When we had our first baby five years later, she went with us to purchase a TREK baby bike buggy to put our baby in as soon as he was 6 months old. It doubled as our baby and wine carrier when we would visit wineries on Orcas Island.
Two years after Vic and I married, we bought our first house. Your mom was right there with us, making paint suggestions and giving us tips on how to make the upgrades when we didn’t know how. I think back to how young we still were then, and how naïve or ignorant I was in so many ways as a young military wife. Your mom and I would bike or sit and talk for hours in the summer, and through my mistakes and my happy highs, she always had a good listening ear and the wise advice that a true friend could be relied upon to give. After ten years on Whidbey Island, we moved on with the military, but your mom and I still kept in touch. Vic and I loved Jan very much, and we will always remember her dog, George, the bicycling, our chats about life, and her smile that could light up any room. I can still see her grin and hear that giggle! How much better our life has been because we had the benefit of your mom’s friendship!

With our love,
Bonnie and Victor Alanis
