Obituary for Lyle Dean Jones

Lyle Dean Jones
“Lyle Dean” Jones, 73, of Coupeville, WA passed away January 21, 2016. He was born in Onawa, Iowa on December 11, 1942 to Elmo and Murrl (DeLashmuut) Jones. Lyle graduated from Franklin High School in Portland, OR in 1960.

Lyle proudly served for four years in the United States Navy. He married his high school sweetheart, Teri Roberts on June 5, 1965 in Everett, WA. Together, they adopted a baby girl, Megan, on July 21, 1983.

After buying property on Whidbey Island Lyle moved his family to Whidbey in 1998. He designed their dream home by the sea and was very proud that he did most of the construction work himself with help from his family. Lyle worked for Scott Paper/Kimberly Clark and retired from the company after 33 years of service.

Lyle enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He loved living on Whidbey, watching the eagles, whales, and ships go by and fishing with his Whidbey fishing partner, John Rooke. He enjoyed yearly trips to Mexico with cousins Cecil and Kathy DeLashmutt; fishing trips to Alaska with cousin Cecil and his beloved Uncle Del. His other joy was 45 years of clam digging and adventures with good buddy Dave Trapp.

Lyle was able to travel to Spain for the birth of his first grandson, Carter, in January 2015. Lyle had a very outgoing personality and loved to tell jokes and make people laugh. He loved playing poker every week. Texas Hold Um was his favorite game and he was forever sharing with his family and friends his strategies for winning and the amazing hands he was dealt. He loved to invite people to come and play with his poker group.

His greatest joy, however, came from being a Grandpa. He loved his grandson, Carter and was overjoyed by the news of a second grandson, Conner, who is due in April. Lyle was a loving husband to his wife Teri. They recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary and he was very proud of hitting the 50 mark.

Lyle leaves behind his wife, Teri; daughter Megan and son-in-law Casey Rohwer; grandson Carter, and soon to be grandson, Conner. Also surviving are five siblings; Bernard Jones, Bernice Elliott, Karen Bauske, Lenny Jones and Kathy Wrisley. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.

A Celebration of Life for Lyle will be held sometime during the summer. The family suggests memorials to the International Myeloma Foundation, 12650 Riverside Drive Ste 206, North Hollywood, CA 91607-3421.
