Condolence From: Robert J Fomenko AD2, USN RET
Condolence: Mr. Smith was the greatest man that I had the pleasure of meeting and serving with in the United States military. Smitty was a man filled with knowledge. In my eyes he was a man that knew everything and if he didn't know something he would get on the phone or in a book and find the answer to any question or problem. He helped guide me in my Naval career and helped me become a better Sailor. He was one squared away Sailor and one of the most honorable men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. He was a mentor to me. I am very thankful that I had the pleasure of having him in my families life. REST IN PEACE and I will see you in a better place in the future.

Condolence: Master Chief, I am but one of many who you lead, taught and inspired while under your direction as the MAINTENANCE/MAINTENANCE MASTER CHIEF in both VA-165 and VAQ-129. It was a direct result of your six years of leadership and hands on training that I aspired to wearing the ANCHORS and later to receive my commission. You stood out as one of the GREATS that I had the pleasure to serve with in my 25 years of NAVAL service and I will not soon forget your direction that one night in the PI when I was ready to gamble it all on a single altercation with a much lessor chief. Thanks for believing in me. REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND
