Obituary for Amparo "Ampy" Townsend

Amparo “Ampy” Townsend (née Mapa) died peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, March 3rd, 2017 in Oak Harbor, Washington at the age of 76.
Ampy is survived by her children Chona Townsend, Arlene (Gregg) Gibeau, Daniel (Jennifer) Townsend, grandchildren Christopher and Maria Stocke, Brittany (Ian) Furgason, Levin, Jeremy, and Madeleine Townsend, and great-grandchildren David and Abigail Furgason, and brothers Gorgonio C. Mapa, Jaime C. Mapa, and sister Josefina M. Tulle of the Philippines. She is preceded in death by her parents Sebastian and Faustina (Cardeanas) Mapa, sister Lilia Breckenridge, and husband Jarrell “Jerry” Townsend.
Ampy was born on October 28th, 1940 on the island of Samar, Philippines. She married Jerry in 1966, then moved to Ritzville, Washington. Ampy raised their three children after Jerry’s death in 1981. She also worked as a cook at the Life Care Center of Ritzville and East Adams Rural Hospital. She later retired to Oak Harbor in 1993. Throughout her life, Ampy was a devout Catholic, and an active member of St. Agnes Parish in Ritzville and St. Augustine Parish in Oak Harbor. She also loved sharing her faith with others and read the Bible daily.
Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing scheduled from 3 to 5pm on Thursday, March 9th at Wallin Funeral Home in Oak Harbor. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10am Friday, March 10th at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Oak Harbor, with a reception to follow. Reverend Jerry will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ampy’s life. Interment will be at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery at a later date.
