Obituary for Royce Waldemar Keating

Royce Waldemar Keating
May 9, 1935 – March 28, 2018

Royce was born in Spokane Washington to Waldemar and Laura Keating where he lived until 1964 when he moved to Renton, Washington after receiving a promotion to Chief Line Assigner with Pacific Northwest Bell.

In 1966 Royce married his wife Rita and together they raised 6 children. Upon retiring, the couple moved to Freeland, Washington where they built their home and have enjoyed the island life for the past 35 years.

Royce enjoyed cooking, fishing, hunting, target shooting and hand loading ammunition for friends and family. He could often be found at Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club shooting targets or collecting empty casings for reloading.

Royce loved people and could turn a stranger into a friend quickly through his conversation and generosity. His love for his family, including 13 grandchildren, was tremendous and he loved to visit and reminisce about the many memorable life events he had shared with them and his friends. Royce will be missed by many!

Royce was preceded in death by his father Waldemar, mother Laura, sister Betty Colvin, and grandchildren Brian and Jennifer Keating. He is survived by his wife Rita of 51 years, four sons Mike, Pat, Mark and Rama Keating, two daughters Susan Mason and Laura Kaplan, eleven grandchildren Scarlet Carpenter, Benjamin Gendro, Pamela Adams, Danielle Iseman, Michaela Osbnorne, Aaron Kaplan, Julie, Alexis, Joey, Lauryn, and Spencer Keating as well as his five great grandchildren Casey Keating, Keenan, Aaron and Evan Carpenter and Delila Adams.
