Obituary for Lorie Jean Morton

Lorie Jean Morton passed into the realm of Angels and her Heavenly Father, late on the morning of December 2, 2018, at the venerable age of 94.

Born Lorie Jean LaFontaine, November 7, 1924, to Jay and Cecilia LaFontaine of Yakima, Wa. She attended schools in Yakima with her siblings Delores, Ella Mae, and Vern . After graduation from St. Joseph Academy, she enrolled in Yakima Valley College. An excellent student, and always curious about the world, she was very interested in aircraft and a took a flying course from Civil Air Patrol in 1942.

At a dance at YVC in 1942 she met the charming Earl T. Morton. They married January 17, 1944, celebrating 53 years together before Earl preceded his "Jean" in death in 2007. Earl was a United States Navy pilot in WW2 and Jean often reminisced about those years, keeping contact with the squadron Carrier Air Group 86 over the years. Eventually, they returned to the Yakima Valley to grow orchards and farm there. It was an amazing life journey which included raising a family of 5 wonderful children. A much appreciated legacy of love lives on in children Kathleen Harrison (Daniel/deceased) of Pinehurst, Idaho; Michael D. Morton (Bobbie) of Oak Harbor, WA.; Kimberly Bales (Steve) of Tulalip,WA.; Suzanne Vargo (James) of Mishawaka, IN.; And Kelt Patrick Morton (deceased April 1989).

Lorie Jean took great pride in her Grandchildren: David Harrison, Kevin Harrison (Lisa), Marc Harrison (Stacy) and Steve Harrison; Lisa Ann Morton McDavid, Kristopher Morton, Victoria Morton Ellis, and Craig Morton (Fiona); Matthew Bales (Amanda), Sarah Bales Fishback (Mike); Lucus Vargo, Ryan Vargo (Ashley); Kyle Ames (Megan).

She loved to regale us all with delightful stories about her children and grandchildren, and about her great grandchildren Cody Harrison, Ryan Harrision, Jacob Harrison,Garret Harrison, Austin Harrison, Bailey Harrison, Kate Harrison, Kaiden Morton, Keston Morton, Hannah Ellis, Noah Ellis, Kelt Michael Morton, Kayla Morton, Molly Rose Ames, Oliver Ames, Penelope Rose Ames, Edison Fishback, and Otis Fishback.

Lorie Jean would eventually move to Whidbey Island and the Regency of Whidbey Assisted Living Community where she could be close to her family. We will miss you so much Mom. Thank you for all that you have done for all of us. Thank you for the example of strength and generosity you have presented to us. You have been a gift in our lives. We all know the breadth and experience of your life would take a book to relate. It would be an inspiring and enjoyable read. Thank you Mom.

Lorie Jean Morton will be laid to rest next to her beloved Earl, and son Kelt Patrick Morton. Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday December 7 at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Moxee, WA.
