So many Lyle Bull stories...so little space....and all inspirational! Adm Bull was my XO and then CO in VA-196 from 1974 to 1976. He was an amazing example of humanity and leadership rolled up into one giant personality. In June 1976 off the coast of San Diego on USS ENTERPRISE, he called me out of the Ready Room into the adjacent passageway with a solemn "follow me" gesture. My wife was due to deliver our third child any day...so I was concerned. Remember this was before sonograms, cell phones, email, Skype, Facetime, etc. He then broke into the biggest Lyle Bull grin and said..."Do you want a boy or girl?" I said "either one." He handed me the Red Cross telegram announcing the birth of our son. I love that man.
