Rita Irene Winkel, 94, passed away peacefully June 18, 2018 at her home outside of Coupeville, WA with family nearby. Rita and her husband Robert C Winkel (deceased 1991) moved to the area in 1984. Rita leaves behind 3 children, one grandchild, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Rita was a SPAR in the Coast Guard women’s auxiliary during WWII. She was a professional educator specializing in reading disabilities, and derived much joy from helping people to learn. She had a passion for swimming, playing bridge, and instructing others in those activities. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Coupeville.

A memorial service is scheduled for Noon on July 17 at Wallin Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Rita’s life.
