Condolence: I was honored to have been his dive buddy several times. He was a kind and thoughtful mentor to many of us young guys in the late '70s. Fair winds, blue skies and warm waters, Gunner.

Condolence: Margie and me both worked at the Oak Harbor Post Office and that’s how I met Clarke. I never had the honor to serve with him but knew right away after meeting him, that this was a man of integrity, truth and strength. A good man, a better human being. We need more like him. I’ll treasure the few memories I have of him.

Condolence: I was saddened to hear the loss of this great American hero. I never had the honor to serve alongside Clarke, but I did get to meet and hang out with him while I served at EODMU ELEVEN Det Whidbey Island back in early 90’s. I was totally surprised to learn that it was Clarke in the old EOD recruiting video “Bomb Squad USN” (https://youtu.be/xtczkXtxPlk). He was the guy in the video responsible for carrying and placing the “Universal Safe’ing Device” on the mine. I remember asking Clarke about this unique device and he told me it was just a prop they made for the video. It was nothing more than a wooden box with a couple handles, gauges and switches. LOL. As another great and unforgettable member of our EOD community passes into history, I wish the George family all the comfort that prayers can provide and all the respect that Clarke’s life and valor deserve. Hooyah Clarke! Hooyah!

Condolence: Clarke was a leader in the EOD community. His experience in Mine Counter Measures (MCM) is lost to the newest generations, sadly. He starred in EOD recruiting films - astride the old Combat Rubber Raiding Craft (CRRC), LOL!!! For us younger fellas, he laid the ground for future tactics. He was one of the good ones! I spent time with him in his latter days...enjoyed barbeque at his house, laughed with him and Margaret, quaffed a beer on occasion. I rode motorcycles with him and always enjoyed his quiet, sardonic humor. I remember him occasionally pulling me aside to make some joke on something we had just experienced. He was a genuinely caring person. I will miss him terribly! I won't say that difficulties in life are sad for Clarke met challenge head-on and he surmounted!! He is an inspiration and should be remembered as such. Carry on Brother!! We Remember.
