Valerie Salter Wilder was born on Sept. 11, 1938, the only child of Samuel Leslie and Lillie Salter. Valerie attended primary school in England and went on to pursue her education as an independent floral designer. She accepted Christ at an early age.

Valerie met, and subsequently married, the love of her life, Johnie Wilder Sr. Together they had four children. Her interests included crocheting, and gardening, and she had a special love for her three cats.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Johnie; children, Natasha (Bernard) Chatman, of Sacramento, Calif., John Wilder Jr., of Benton, Tex., Portia (Shawn) Spellman, of Vacaville, Calif., and Barrett (Steffany) Wilder, also of Vacaville, Calif. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Barrett J, Antoine, Jeanille, Jordyn, Barrett A, Brady, Bradon, Austin, and Julian and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Chatman. In addition one sister-in-law, Sallie McAlpine, of Detroit, Mich., and a brother-in-law, Fletcher (Emeral) Wilder, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and additional family and friends survive.

Services were held June 11, 2019 with burial at Sunnyside Cemetery in Coupeville, Wash.

Mr. John and Family, I wish I had the words to say that would ease you and your family’s pain at this time but I do not. What I can say is that I met you and Miss Val at my store in Coupeville about six years ago and I have never met a couple that exuded more love for each other than you and Miss Val. My heart has not felt the pain and grief like this since I lost my mother. Miss Val’s love for her cats was always displayed for everybody to see. Her love for her native country, England, was beyond reproach. The Pearlie Gates of Heaven just received an Angel that will never be forgotten. Please accept my most sincere condolences and my deepest sympathies. WAIF BaRC Staff
