Obituary for Rowland Davis

Rowland Edwin Davis was born June 26, 1938 in Juneau, Alaska to James V. Davis
and Anna (Bergstrom) Davis. Rowland attended Coupeville Elementary and High School, spending his summers working in Alaska on fish traps and salmon tenders. After graduating from CHS in 1956 he attended Washington State College (later WSU) where he became a lifelong proud Cougar, earned a BA in Business Administration and met and married he love of his life, Lorraine Bayless.

A daughter, Kristine and son, Don soon joined the family and after moving to Seattle
in 1963 Rowland worked for Pacific Northern Airlines and Pacific Car & Foundry. They
moved to King Cove, Alaska in 1967 where he began his 35 year career
with Pacific Alaska Fisheries (later Peter Pan Seafoods), and was instrumental in the layout and design of a new facility in 1976.


Rowland retired on December 31, 2003 and in May he and Lorraine celebrated
their 60th wedding anniversary. Rowland was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last December, having completed his final radiation treatment on July 8th. He was looking forward to a summer of gardening when he was taken by a massive heart attack July 10th.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Grace Ohrbeck and Lois Smith, and brother
James Davis. He is survived by wife Lorraine, daughter Kristine (Joe) Black, son Don (Regina)
Davis, grandchildren Grace and Sam, sister Demaris Dean, and many beloved nieces and
nephews.
