Obituary for Ellen May (Myers) Statia

Ellen May (Myers) Statia, a resident of Oak Harbor, WA, and formerly of Bennington and Pownal, VT, passed away November 10, 2019 at her home in Washington State surrounded by her loved ones. Ellen was born on May 9, 1931 in Shaftsbury, VT to the late William A. and Eunice D. (Harwood) Myers.
She lived in the Bennington area until 1977 and then moved to Oak Harbor, WA.

Ellen received her education in a one-room schoolhouse in Shaftsbury, Vt. She and her husband Jerry had owned a diner in Bennington for a short time in her early years. She then worked at Union Carbide, (Eveready) prior to moving to Washington. She Retired in 2006 from Technical Services Inc. in Oak Harbor where she was a supervisor.

On June 28, 1952 she married the love of her life, the late Jerome D. Statia. Ellen and Jerry spent many years enjoying life together. They spent much of their time snowmobiling, camping, hiking, and fishing with their kids. They loved exploring the outdoors on Jerry's motorcycle, often riding with several of their friends. After Jerry's passing in 1970, she raised her children for many years as a single mother. She continued enjoying the outdoors with her children and taking them camping. The children became very involved in equestrian competition, and she would haul their horses to the horse shows throughout parts of New England.

Ellen enjoyed traveling, ocean cruises with stops at exotic ports, bird watching, watching old sentimental movies with family, caring for her adopted feral cats, listening to music, and she loved her frog collection. She loved strolling through the grass looking for four-leaf clovers and was an avid bingo player. She loved spending summers with her family and friends at Sportsman Campground and Cottages on Lake Champlain. Her family was very important to her and was always her priority. Her strong and independent spirit, wit and sense of humor, were inspiring to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and to anyone who knew her.

Ellen is survived by her children: Carolyn A. Gore, Linda M. (Thomas) Cross, Darcy L. (John) Patterson, Scott D. (Kay) Statia, Wendy S. Cramer and Harry F. (Melissa) Statia; her grandchildren: Shelly Etherington, Muranda Ancheta, Jodi Patterson, Bonnie M. Patterson, Jeromy Statia, Kyle Statia, Tia Statia, Jason Cramer, Matthew Cramer, Samantha Statia, Alexandra Statia, Gavin Statia and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Jerome D. Statia; her siblings: Charles Myers, Edward Myers, Evelyn Latour, William Myers and James Myers; and two grandchildren: Gary J. Gore and Thomas J. Cross and son-in-law Gary M. Gore.

She will be coming home to Vermont for her final resting place next to her beloved husband Jerry, with funeral services to be held Friday November 22, 2019 at 12noon at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. Interment will follow in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery. A visiting hour at the funeral home will be held from 11-12, one hour prior to the service. Funeral services in Washington State will be held Saturday November 16, 2019. Memorial gifts in Ellen’s memory may be made to Oasis For Animals, c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home P.O. A funeral Service for Ellen will also be held at Wallin Funeral Home on November 16th at 11 am with a reception to follow.
