Condolences

Condolence From: Susan Conaty-Buck
Condolence: I am so terribly sad to learn of Karen's passing. She was a tremendous nurse and scholar. We were graduate students at the University of Virginia School of Nursing together 2001-2003 and shared the stresses of trying to blend attending graduate school with being parents. She was so committed to becoming the best CNS to help her serve our country's sailors but it was clear her #1 favorite thing was being Mom to Katey and Patrick. She spoke of concerns about being posted away from them but she knew her family would step in to give care while she needed to give service to others. Karen was kind enough to allow me to stay with her and her children during a winter session course about Immunology. The work was intense and we were up many late hours writing papers and trying to master the complex course content but I don't think will ever laugh as much as we did during those evenings and I will be forever grateful to her for sharing her home and family with me. I am glad Karen's life continued to expand with love, and I expect much more laughter. She demonstrated leadership beyond compare as a nurse, officer and administrator and I celebrate all she achieved but morn the loss of what opportunities were taken away by her illness and death. God's blessing to her children, her husband and all her loved ones. Dr. Susan Conaty-Buck, DNP,FNP-C

Condolence: Dear Emil, Patrick, Katey, and brothers,
We sympathsize with you in your huge loss. Karen was so young and she accomplished so much in her short lifetime! You have to be proud to have shared your lives together as a family! What a joy to know that you were so well loved by her. I hope the memories you have, of serving her in her illness, will be a comfort to you for the rest of your own lives. We all have such a short time on this earth to serve others. Clearly, Karen's devotion to the health and well-being of others punctuates the importance of that principle. Jesus was a Man of Sorrows and acquainted with our grief. He is the Only One who can truly sympathize and understand what you are experiencing today and a lifetime of todays and tomorrows. May you, all, sense His Presence and His Comfort, is my prayer for you today.

Condolence: I was deeply saddened to learn of Captain Pruett Baer's passing (or as I affectionately called her, Miss Pruett Baer). She had such a sweet spirit and gentle demeanor about her. You couldn't help but love her and smile when you saw her. It was always my pleasure to help when she stopped by the pharmacy and she always greeted me with a sweet smile and friendly conversation no matter what kind of day she was having. She has left an empty space in my heart and will be missed so very much. I am blessed and honored to have known her. I am so sorry for your terrible loss. May you find peace.
