From Reno to Bell Ringer

My good friend Digger and I were in Reno NV walking into the Silver Dollar lounge area to meet some fellow Ordnancemen and Officers for libations when we arrive at the large round table 4 men were seated as we aprroached the Navy Commander and the Marine Lt Colonel stood to greet us a shake hands.  The other man remained seated and passed a hello Gunner to Digger,  then he stood up to shake my hand and introduced himself as Sgt Major,   Digger looked at me a glance around the room said hello to the Commander and said SO how you puddle jumpers doing today refering to the two very senior Marines as Coast guard servicemen.   A hush fell over the table and then Digger stated he didn't mean to hurt their feelings.  Everyone laughed except the SgtMajor but we all sat down had a drink on the Marines it was a great evening with Digger,   Many months later he and my son Josh  had joined efforts to bell ring for the Salvatioin Army outside the Walmart in Oak Harbor and as my luck would have it Josh had signed me up for a  Bell Ringing period along with his time of 4 hour watches, Our watches were 4 hours apart and the person between my son and I did not arrive to relieve so Digger shows up to relieve Josh and we all stayed there together for almost 10 hours together.   A great and very compassionate Man.   God Speed RIP my friend.
