I had met Bob through my father, who used to run a wine estate in Germany and would travel to the US occasionally for promotion tours. Bob had been to Germany repeatedly, and had impressed me (as a youngster in the 80s) with his cheerful yet unobtrusive friendly attitude and keen interest in everything he would see around him. In 1987 my father and I visited Wisconsin and Bob had basically organized our entire stay in the state. We would organize wine tastings together, and I remember sitting next to him at the "Fox & Hounds". I could not say that I knew him, but I still remember him to this day.
