Killing Fields

Bruce and I were cousins.  He was three years older than I was.  We were at them house in Renton for his 12th birthday I think.  He had gotten a b-b rifle as a gift and he was itching to try it out.  After being lectured by Nick about the safe care we headed to the back forty to target shoot.  He got bored with hitting fence posts and turned his attention to birds.  low and behold he actually hit one and then the panic set in.  His mother would kill him for sure.  after disposing of the body so no one would run an autopsy he swore me to secrecy under threat of death.  He was three years older and 50 pounds heavier so I agreed not to say anything.  As I recall he was feeling pretty smug that he shot this bird and nobody was going to know except me and I was not going to risk getting clobbered.  However unknown to us his brother Dave had followed us and saw the whole incident.  He could not wait to run home and tell his mother.  The rest you can just imagine.
