Spending the Night

I remember the first time I spent the night at the Leese's home.  Jani and I were good friends and I was impressed that her family had horses, since they were so beautiful to me.  One of them was named Cheerios, but I don't remember the name of the other one.  Jani and I were walking across the field and all of a sudden Jani hollers "run!" and here came the horses.  I was scared to death and Jani could run faster than me, but I made it up in the hayloft in the barn and didn't get trampled.  I was not familiar with outhouses so that was another thing that scared me.  Keep in mind I was a little kid.  Anyway, Bessie was so very kind to me when she came in to check on us at bedtime because I was crying but trying not to make any noise.  She rubbed my back and tucked me in and I felt better.  I remember her as a very lovely person.
